First-Year Scholarships at North Carolina A&T State University
As a new incoming freshman at North Carolina A&T State University, you are automatically considered for scholarships to support your educational journey. In some cases, specific scholarships may require a separate application. Here are the Freshman Scholarships available to those pursuing their first Bachelor's degree in a degree-seeking program. To ensure you have comprehensive financial aid consideration, we encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additionally, please note that your admissions application must be on file with the admissions office by October 16th for priority scholarship consideration.
1. National Alumni Scholarship
The National Alumni Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic talent and ability. This legacy scholarship program continues its mission of attracting high-quality students by providing full tuition coverage, related fees, room, and board. This scholarship is renewable for up to four (4) years, as long as yearly requirements are met.
Criteria:
- United States citizenship and graduation from an accredited high school before the fall semester of the application year.
- Fulfillment of admission requirements for N.C. A&T State University (an application to the university is required before the application deadline).
- Minimum 3.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- For the 2023-2024 academic year, ACT and SAT scores are optional.
- Submission of two typed and signed letters of recommendation/evaluation letters on letterhead, including one from a school (faculty or administrator) and one from a community organization (e.g., faith-based, civic, youth organizations).
- Successful completion of recorded interview questions.
- The 2023-2024 National Alumni Scholarship Application will be open from October 15 to December 15.
2. Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholarship
The Lewis and Elizabeth Dowdy Scholars Program is a prestigious scholarship awarded to incoming freshmen who have demonstrated excellence in academics and scholarly leadership during high school. Recipients receive a four-year renewable scholarship, including tuition, related fees, room, and board, contingent upon meeting renewal requirements each year.
3. The Cheatham-White Scholarship

4. The February One Scholarship

Transfer Student Scholarships
At North Carolina A&T University, the Office of Student Financial Aid is dedicated to recognizing the academic excellence of incoming transfer students by offering a range of scholarships and grants. We aim to support the aspirations of prospective students who meet all the university's requirements for regular admission. The great news is that no separate application is needed; the application for admission to the university automatically serves as your application for transfer scholarships.
Eligibility
The Office of Student Financial Aid extends general scholarships to incoming transfer students who have been admitted by May 1st. To qualify, recipients must hold a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 from the institution they are transferring from. This opportunity is open to both in-state and out-of-state residents. While the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not mandatory, we strongly encourage its completion.
Award & Process
Recipients will be granted $1,000 for the academic year. Award notifications will commence in March and continue through the end of April. The scholarship award will be distributed equally between the Fall and Spring semesters. It's important to note that this scholarship is one-time and non-renewable. Endowment Scholarships

Scholarship For Graduate Student
The Office of Student Financial Aid primarily manages undergraduate scholarships, and prospective graduate students are encouraged to connect with the Graduate College or their intended department for further scholarship opportunities.
General Endowed Scholarship Application
Each academic year, starting February 1st, the general endowed scholarship application becomes available. To be considered for all endowed scholarships, please visit the Aggie Scholarship Application Portal and submit your completed form to the Office of Student Financial Aid. The priority deadline is March 1st, but we will continue to accept and review applications after this date, depending on available funding. Students eligible for multiple scholarships will be awarded the scholarship that aligns most closely with their criteria. All recipients of endowment awards are required to express their gratitude by submitting a thank-you letter, acknowledging the generous contributions made to the university by donors.
Graduate students may also explore scholarship opportunities from external sources and specific endowment scholarships.
