Recognizing the crucial need for a well-educated workforce, Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter and the Idaho Legislature established this scholarship to dismantle barriers to higher education, paving the way for college and university graduates to seamlessly enter the workforce.

- Academic Requirement: A minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.7 is essential.
- Award Amount: Eligible applicants can receive up to $3,500 per academic year, renewable for up to four years.

Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for this opportunity, students must fulfill the following criteria:
- 1. Maintain an unweighted, cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher.
- 2. Be a resident of Idaho.
- 3. Graduate or be in the process of graduating from an Idaho high school or its equivalent, including Idaho home school (GED/HSE from Idaho).
- 4. Complete the State Board of Education scholarship application by March 1.
- 5. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.
- 6. Sustain satisfactory academic progress for financial aid purposes.
- 7. Attend one of the eligible Idaho colleges or universities listed below:
- - Boise State University
- - Brigham Young University – Idaho
- - College of Idaho
- - Idaho State University
- - Lewis-Clark State College
- - Northwest Nazarene University
- - University of Idaho
- - Western Governors University
It's noteworthy that community colleges in Idaho will no longer be eligible institutions for new recipients of the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship after the 2023-24 academic year.
For those who renewed or indicated (prior to July 1, 2023) attendance at an Idaho community college, the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship award will still be honored at those institutions.
