                          Details:

The IMF, promoting international financial stability and monetary cooperation, also facilitates international trade, supports employment and sustainable economic growth, and works towards reducing global poverty. Conceived in July 1944 at the United Nations Bretton Woods Conference, the IMF is governed by and accountable to its 189 member countries.

                    Requirements:

To be considered for the program, you must:

- Be a recent PhD graduate or within one year of completing your PhD in a relevant field of study.

- Be a national of one of the IMF member countries.

- Be under age 34 when joining the IMF EP program.

             Duration and Reward:

The EP provides a well-rounded experience, offering a unique foundation for a fulfilling career as an economist. During the three-year program, participants rotate through two departmental assignments, engaging in economic teams focusing on regional and country-specific surveillance, fiscal, monetary, balance of payments, debt, or related issues. This is not a trainee position, and from the start, participants have real responsibilities as IMF economists. By the end of the program, the IMF hopes participants will choose to build a long-term career as an IMF economist.

                Required Documents:

  • Preliminary interview, high-level overview of research paper, and response to questions on economic topics related to IMF work.
  • Submission of university transcript, three academic references, and a research paper or dissertation chapters.
  • In-person panel interview, online psychometric assessment, and a written exam.

The application process opens annually in late September, with shortlisted candidates interviewed between October and January, and offers made in early February. The selection process involves multiple stages, including panel interviews, psychometric assessments, and written exams. Click here to Apply
