Situated in the Center for African Studies at UC Berkeley, the program has supported over 120 students from 2012 to 2020, encompassing both undergraduate and master’s degree students. Notably, students pursuing doctoral degrees are ineligible for this program. From 2023 through 2030, the program at UC Berkeley plans to support over 108 master’s degree students.

To be considered for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, master’s degree seekers must first apply to the university through the regular admissions process. Subsequently, eligible students will be invited to apply for the Scholarship.

  • Come from a socio-economically disadvantaged background.

MBA students need to secure additional funding from Haas Business School through obtaining Haas scholarships.

         Method of Application:

Master’s degree applicants must apply to a graduate program before consideration for the Mastercard Foundations Scholars Program. Not all degree programs are eligible, and each eligible graduate degree program has specific requirements. The application process details can be found on the UC Berkeley website.
